This is the fourth year that Bridget Lamont works as our volunteer librarian.
She was the Director of the Illinois State Library for 16 years and her accomplishments there included: planning and construction of the new Illinois State Library building across from the Capitol; the READ Illinois program; introduction of Family Reading Night; coordination of the 3000 plus libraries in the Illinois library network of school, public and academic libraries; family and adult literacy programs; Illinois Authors’ Literary Fair; and grants for libraries across the state.
She worked as a Children’s and Young Adult librarian at the Champaign, Evanston and Wilmette public libraries. She has numerous awards from the Illinois and American Library Associations, the Illinois Humanities Council and other organizations. She was the Vice-Chair of the National Commission on Libraries and Information. After her work at the State Library, she was Director of Policy Development for the Governor.
She grew up in Wilmette, Illinois; graduated from Regina Dominican High School and Clarke College. She has a masters’ degree from the University of Illinois and an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters from Dominican University.
She’s married to Tom Lamont and has two sons-Michael who lives in Chicago and Jeff who is deceased.
I love having this opportunity to work with the students and teachers at St. Aloysius and its certainly a highlight of my work as a librarian.
